Volunteer Spotlight: Kendra Wilson
Confidently Making a Difference

Picture
Kendra Wilson, an active participant and leader in CCC's Arise Young Adults Community, has discovered what Paul meant when he said "we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10).

How long have been part of Christ Community Church?
I started going around three years ago, and I was just in and out, coming on Sundays sometimes. I was starting to get acquainted with Young Adults, and that’s where I really started to get involved. Last year I became a member.

What ministries are you involved in now?
I’m an outreach coach and a community group leader with Arise, and I do worship team as well. Also, I drive the Christ Community van on Sunday. I pick up people who have requested transportation for the 11 o’clock service, and drop them off afterward. And if there’s ever a choir, I’ll do that too, because I love to sing.

What do you enjoy about serving as a volunteer at CCC?
I think the biggest thing is I can see I’m making an impact. I’ve always desired significance, even before I knew the Lord. I always longed for meaning, that what I do would make an impact before I leave this earth. When my grandmother died, I realized all the great things she did for people – just loving others and being an influence on them and being a provider – and I felt in my heart I want to leave a legacy like that when I die. I think when I serve here at CCC, I’m able to see that I am forming connections with people and getting to know them and making a difference.

I think the most exciting thing is, I am a worship leader at heart – I love to praise the Lord at church. I’m always dancing around. I wasn’t always that way. When I first started coming here, I was in the back, but I started to feel led to go up to the front and worship the Lord. It’s just so much fun to glorify the Lord and use what He’s given me. I never used to like singing; I always felt like my voice wasn’t as good as other people’s, but the Lord inspired me to open my mouth and sing for Him.

What would you say to encourage someone who is wondering if they should get involved as a volunteer?
I would tell them that whatever they have, whatever makes them unique – even if it’s something they feel like makes them unqualified to serve –might actually be something they can use to be a blessing to someone else. Often something that we feel like is a hindrance is something that God can use for a purpose. I used to not like my outgoing personality – I would think I was overbearing and annoying to people, but I realized that God was using me to reach out to those who were lost, and as I got older and closer to Christ, I realized that I needed to be that way, that I didn’t need to change. So I would encourage anybody that you have what it takes to be a leader, you have what it takes to serve, and whatever you have inside of you is needed and you just have to tap in to it.
