Micah's Promise
Guided by the words of Micah's Promise Micah 6:8 – to seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God – Micah's Promise began in 2014 as an outreach of Christ Community Church working to address the issue of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST). The vision and plan has always been to build a restoration home for these children in partnership with local churches of all faiths, as well as community collaboration.
Despite how it sounds, trafficking does not require movement. Human trafficking is modern day slavery that touches every corner of the globe. This multi-billion dollar industry is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. The FBI has called it an “epidemic.” The average age of victims is 11-14. Georgia records indicate more than 1,800 calls for help occurred in 2017. In all counties across the state, 200-300 girls are trafficked each month. Presently, there are only 31 bed placements available for these children.
Micah's Promise’s mission is to provide transformational life-change to survivors of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and build a supportive community for reintegration. The facility for 12 girls will provide a safe environment to address the complex trauma needs in compliance with Georgia Department of Family and Child Services (DFACS) requirements for Maximum Watchful Oversight (MWO) and Criminal Justice Coordinating Council’s (CJCC) DMST Standards of Care for girls 12-17.
In addition to providing trauma-informed therapy, intense case management life skills, and artistic expression enhancing survivors’ healing and restoration, Micah’s Promise will continue to impact the community through
To ensure Micah’s Promise is built on a solid foundation for those we serve, we are participating in a mentorship with Wellspring Living, a non-profit in Atlanta, who has been providing care and services to this population for 17 years. Through their Institute, we are being trained using a proven model of success.
The Columbus area has an urgent need for a safe environment that addresses the unique needs of trafficked girls. This need cannot be successfully addressed within a mixed population due to the complex trauma of victims, as well as needing a protective environment for academic success.
The reality of the local demand for an environment being developed by Micah’s Promise was communicated to us recently through a meeting with Mary Frances Bowley, Executive Director and Founder of Wellspring Living: “In the summer of 2016, a 15-year-old girl was rescued from her trafficker and placed in Twin Cedars. Law enforcement called one month into her stay to ask for a tour and if we could take her into care. The law enforcement official told us that this survivor didn’t feel safe going to public school and was not getting the intense therapy needed for her recovery.”

- Educating the general public on the issue of DMST
- Training first responders and those working with youth at risk
- Promoting prevention and awareness for youth who are at risk of becoming victims.
