Denise Stephens
Executive Assistant to the Senior Leadership Team

Picture
I was born in Columbus, Georgia but spent much of my life living in other parts of the Southeast, until my family returned in the early 1990s. My undergraduate degree is in Communicative Disorders and my graduate degree is in Psychology and Counseling (completed while a single mom working two jobs). My work experience is varied, to say the least: catering, childcare, construction, janitorial, secretarial, teaching, risk reduction and suicide prevention. Without question my greatest joy and pleasure is to be the mother of Jessica Grace, Jeffrey Aaron, Joshua Neil and “mother-in-love” of Sara Marie.

Life verse: “Praise the Lord, for He has shown me the wonders of His unfailing love” (Psalm 31:21, NLT).

Favorite movies: "Princess Bride," "Serenity," most of the Marvel Universe movies, and almost anything with Cary Grant, either Hepburn, or Barbara Stanwyck.

Hobbies, pastimes and interests: I really enjoy walking, swimming and reading. I can spend all day cooking and baking for people. I’m interested in people, hearing their stories and helping how/where I can.

Ambitions / aspirations: I don’t want to stop learning. I recently learned how to knit and crochet; next I’d like to learn to play an instrument. My hope is to live long enough to tell everyone I know how much they are loved by God and how He longs to see them healed and free – living in the fullness of Christ Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and ascension.

What I like to read: Anything by C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Christian biographies, and for fun, historical mysteries.

People are surprised to know: I love water! It is my favorite drink (with lime if I’m feeling fancy), I listen to it as I fall asleep, swimming is my favorite exercise, and being near water is my favorite vacation place.

Best counsel / advice I ever received: “Uncommunicated expectations lead to disappointment, which leads to bitterness” and “You can’t spoil babies their first year of life, you just love them.”

My staff role at CCC: I get to support our Senior Leadership Team and be a part of our fantastic church staff. It is an honor to serve and support those who care for us so well.

What I enjoy most about serving at CCC: It is a wonderful combination of giving back and paying forward. CCC has been a great place of healing and spiritual growth for me. I enjoy the opportunity to engage with people who helped me at my lowest times. CCC is growing and changing all the time, and being on staff gives me opportunities to tell people about what this body can do to support them on their journey.
