Billy Gross
Director of CONNECT Ministries

I was born in Columbus, attended Furman University (BA in Physical Education, 1981) and served inner-city teens with FCS Urban Ministries in Atlanta throughout most of the ’80s. I left to study accounting at Georgia State University, then then moved back to Columbus in 1992 and went to work as accounting manager for Harvey Lumber Company, a family business. I have served full-time on the CCC staff since 2004. My wife, Melanie, and I have three children: Caleb (born 1984), Abi (1987) and Becca (1997).
Life verse: “For I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8).
Favorite foods: Doughnuts and cereal – a full breakfast!
Favorite movie: The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Epic tale of good underdogs overcoming evil.
Hobbies, pastimes and interests: Movies, running, backpacking.
Ambitions / aspirations: I’m a very present-oriented person; never been very ambitious. Just want to be faithful to loving God and my neighbor whatever I do and wherever I go. A favorite song verse: “Give me one pure and holy passion. Give me one magnificent obsession. Give me one glorious ambition for my life – to know and follow hard after You [Lord].”
What I like to read: Don’t read a lot, but when I do, I read inspirational books that fuel my faith.
People are surprised to know: That I am 57 and have 4 grandchildren.
Best counsel / advice I ever received: Ruthlessly eliminate hurry.
My staff role at CCC: As Connect Pastor, I oversee our Community Groups ministry – coordinating groups and developing group leaders. I also give support to our Women’s and Singles ministry teams. And like all our pastors, I help provide pastoral care (counseling and visitation) to our members.
What I enjoy most about serving at CCC: Our core values, the integrity and wisdom of our senior leadership, the caring fellowship of our staff team, and the devotion of our people. It is indeed a privilege to serve here.
