I grew up among the swamplands of Waycross, Georgia, then finished high school and went to college in Statesboro, home of Georgia Southern University. After three years in newspapers, I went to the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) for a masters in journalism, followed by a 10-year career as a magazine editor. I was living in Pine Mountain and working in marketing at Callaway Gardens when I discovered and joined CCC. I've been blessed to be part of the staff here since January 2013.
Life verse: Psalm 121:8 – “The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.” As one who loves to travel, and one who will ultimately leave this world, I find much comfort in this verse.
Favorite foods: Pulled pork, boiled peanuts, sundried tomatos, cheese in any format. Pizza is a stumbling block.
Favorite movie: "Lonesome Dove." The quintessential travel story, and a great tale of friendship and loyalty.
Hobbies, pastimes and interests: Reading, photography, travel, hiking, camping, aviation.
Ambitions / aspirations: Earn a private pilot’s license; climb Mount Kilamanjaro.
What I like to read: Travel and adventure, biography, war history, aviation/space travel, theology. Favorite authors: Stephen Ambrose, Sebastian Junger, Wendell Berry, Larry McMurtry, Ravi Zacharias.
People are surprised to know: I lived in South Africa for almost two years. I served with a Cape Town-based ministry called Living Hope in 2009-2010.
Best counsel / advice I ever received: From my dad: If you’re going to do something, do it right.
My staff role at CCC: Responsible for printed and digital communications, including weekly bulletin and e-news, website, sermon podcasts and videos, fliers and brochures, and photography.
What I enjoy most about serving at CCC: Using the skills God has given me for writing, photography and graphic design to connect people to Him and others.
